Pantone Colour of the Year 2020 is…. Classic Blue

Pantone Colour of the Year 2020 is…. Classic Blue

So the colour Gods have spoken. The Pantone Institute colour of the year 2020, and the one to enable our smooth transition into the next decade is… Classic Blue, and we love it! Deep, pensive, sexy, calming and supportive, just one glance at this beautiful colour is all it takes. You can’t help but feel relaxed by it as it oozes the calm of a dusky sky.

"It's a colour that anticipates what's going to happen next," said Laurie Pressman, the vice president of the Pantone Colour Institute. "What's the future going to bring as we move into the evening hours?”

When the Institute choose their colour of the year, they take into account all sorts of global factors from politics to the environment. They try to judge the state of things and select a shade that reflects the global mood. Interestingly their first colour of the year was in 1999. Another shade of blue, Cerulean, was chosen due to the uncertainty and instability surrounding the move into a new millennium. Remember the Y2K bug that never happened and the catastrophe theorists telling us the World itself might end at the stroke of midnight? (I remember stashing a few tins in the cupboard myself just in case!) The Institute said they recognised that we are in a somewhat similar place. Lots of upheaval and uncertainty with climate change presenting an unprecedented threat to the very planet we inhabit. Let’s face it, none of us can deny we all need a bit of supportive calm right now!

If there’s one thing for sure, you’ll be seeing a lot of blue this year. From statement walls to cushions to rugs, mugs and cars. The other great thing about Classic Blue is it goes with absolutely everything too. Try it. From pinks to greens to yellows, it can play second fiddle to almost every popable shade there is. It’s one of the reasons we like to think of it as supportive!
As well as serenity, blue is also all about creativity and regeneration so there’s a deep vibrational energy to it ensuring it works on every level.
If you fancy getting in there early with your appreciation of Classic Blue, why not stack up a few pieces of stunning Indigo ? Or, if you want to go a shade darker, check out our Inky shade too.
