Yoga at Work
The fairies and I all love a bit of yoga…...Disco Billy is regularly found on the Deck out front doing his daily handstand and the very beautiful Bridget is a yoga whizz, who has always attended the local yoga class.
Yoga can be beneficial in all aspects of life, from helping maintain a flexible healthy body to improved respiration, energy and vitality.
We all get wrapped up in daily stresses and strains especially in the workplace, yoga can be done anywhere, anytime, anyplace and with a few yoga moves under your belt you will be feeling calmer and more collected, even on your lunch break!
10 Deep Breaths
This is a well known routine, it can calm you down and make you feel more relaxed and refreshed, this is a perfect way to start any yoga or calming exercise. Focussing on your breath helps to bring you back to the present moment, crucial for mindfulness.
Seated Backbend
While seated with a straight spine take a deep breath and reach all the way up to the ceiling with your arms open wide. As you breath out, let your eyes slowly draw behind you and bend slightly from your upper back and chest. Hold this for a few counts, bring arms to your sides, then repeat.
Sit and Stand Chair Pose
When we’re seated all day, our legs relax and our hamstrings lose their motivation. This two-part pose helps awaken those leg muscles.
Begin seated with your knees bent 90 degrees and your feet flat. Press down from your heels, trying not to move the feet in toward your chair or use your arms, and make your way up to standing.
From standing, slowly sit straight back down, refraining from leaning forward and from shifting the hips to one side or the other. Repeat 5 to 10 times.
Pelvic Floor Exercises
The technical term for these is ‘Kegels’! Sitting down is the perfect time to tense and release your pelvic floor, which helps to keep you strong and is particularly important for mums! These benefit you by helping to prevent piles and weak bladder in older age. We didn't take a picture of these :) !
We here at Disco Beads HQ are very lucky to work near the beach and can quite easily pop over the road to feel the sand between our toes, breathe in the salty sea air and instantly feel the calm. If you can get out the office for 20 minutes on your lunch break, go for a walk with the kids or get out the house. Stretch, breathe and feel rejuvenated……….
Namaste
Much Love
