Red Nose Day 2019 - Friday 15th March
It was the horrific famine in Ethiopia back in the 1980s that inspired the incredibly talented comedy writer and producer, Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Love Actually) and comedian extraordinaire, Sir Lenny Henry, to kick start Comic Relief in 1985. The idea being a simple one - raise money for those in poverty by making people laugh. It wasn’t that long after Live Aid, so there was already an audience out there who understood the concept of a large-scale charity event.
In 1988, it raised what was then an astounding £15m. In 2017, it was £82m. In its 30 year history, Comic Relief (and its sister event, Sports Relief) have raised over £1bn! With its mantra being, ‘A just world free from poverty’, this incredible amount of money has helped literally thousands of causes all over the world.
Since 2002 and the introduction of Sport Relief, Comic Relief happens every other year, and this year is the year!
Of course the highlight of Comic Relief is Red Nose Day. It’s a day when everyone everywhere is encouraged to join in, and it’s gone from strength to strength. People do everything from climbing mountains to cycling to tugs of war to repetitive dunking in soap suds to wearing fancy dress to work. Literally anything goes, such is the joy of Comic Relief! The big day this year is Friday March 15th. If you fancy getting involved, or you just want to donate, just go to the Comic Relief website .
We love Red Nose Day. Every time it comes up, we make a little something to go with it. Last time, thanks to you lovely lot, we managed to raise £625. So let’s see if we can’t smash it this year! For every piece you buy, we give £1 to the Charity!
Up for grabs are some awesome special edition bracelets in Gunmetal or Snow White complete with a reflective red Disco Bead centre piece ‘Red Nose’. For those who don’t like jewellery, there’s always the special edition Red Nose bookmark. See the collection here.
So, go on, treat yourself, or anyone else for that matter, and while you’re at it pass it on and spread the Red Nose love far and wide!
Love
