History

In bygone centuries, twelve stones were associated with the Twelve Apostles and so it became  traditional to keep twelve stones and wear one a month. Wearing a single birthstone is only a few centuries old,  and more recently a  birthstone has become regarded as a gemstone that represents a person's month of birth. Birthstones are now often worn as jewellery and as pendants.
